Hiking: You can follow extensive city hiking trails or traverse the Mount Baker area. Whatcom County offers trails to suite a variety of skill levels. If you're visiting the Mount Baker area, stop by the Ranger Station in Glacier to check on trail accessibility. Fall colors and the stunning views of Mt. Shuksan and Mt. Baker make this area ideal for photography.

Skiing: Mount Baker Ski Area has the longest season in the state, and with runs that curve below Mt. Shuksan, it's one of the most scenic resorts in Washington. Golfing: With the most courses per capita of any Northwestern county, Whatcom is a golfer's paradise. From the rolling contours of a Scottish-style course to the one of the best civic links in the nation, this region is ideal for a golfing getaway.

Water sports: Rent a sailboat or kayak to explore private coves. Or join a charter trip to the San Juan Islands or Victoria. River rafting is very popular and accessible as well. Whether you want to watch whales or simply whittle away the hours, Whatcom County boat operators can help.

Shopping: Numerous shopping opportunities await you in the greater Bellingham area. Major outlet malls can be found to the north in Blaine and to the south in Mount Baker. Bellis Fair was built in 1989 and is one of the largest malls in the state of Washington. The mall features nearly every well known retailer as well as a wide selection of specialty and regional shops.

Other major attractions include the Whatcom Museum of History and Art (state's second largest museum), cultural and performing arts events, the Dutch village of Lynden, the historic Fairhaven district, the Mt. Baker area, Ferndale's pioneer parks, two casinos and water charters that take you whale watching among the San Juan Islands.
